Final Fantasy’s spin-off kart racing game, Chocobo GP, has received a release date as well as confirmation that the game will offer a free-to-play version.

As shared by Nintendo of America on Twitter, Chocobo GP will launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch on March 10, 2022. In addition to the announcement, Square Enix has also released a new trailer for the game, which can be seen in the tweet below.

Upon launch, Chocobo GP will include a number of different modes. To unlock new characters to use throughout the game, players will need to progress through the game’s story mode. Meanwhile, Chocobo GP will also include Series Races where players battle it out across four different tracks to win, a Time Attack mode in which you can face off against other players’ ghosts, and a Chocobo GP mode where up to 64 different players can compete in an online tournament. The game will also include a Custom Races feature where you can tweak the rules to choose the number of courses and types of Magicite available throughout your session.

Chocobo GP will also include a free-to-play option in Chocobo GP Lite. While limited in the number of characters available, players jumping into the Lite version of the game will be able to play the story mode prologue and online multiplayer gameplay – if hosted by someone with access to the full game.

Throughout the trailer, a number of the game’s Magicites and special abilities are shown off. Across the clip, players can be seen using a mix of weaponry from car-mounted missile launchers to elemental tornadoes in order to slow and hinder their opponents.
